❌ “Legacy is for later, I’m not dying yet.”
Actually, the earlier you speak, the clearer your voice and memory will be. Waiting often means forgetting. Starting early grants you time to build up on the important moments, and leave a legacy that’s not rushed.
❌ “My story isn’t that interesting, I haven’t done anything special.”
I’ve heard that a few times, especially from older women. Your life may not seem to have been eventful to you, but I can assure you that your children and grandchildren will want to know how you managed to work before the internet, or how being allowed to open a bank account for the first time as a woman felt like.
❌ “I’ve already written things down.”
That’s amazing! But voice carries something writing can’t: the laughter, the hesitation, the intimacy. The part that really touches people.
❌ “I’ll do it one day, it’s not urgent.”
One day is how legacy gets lost. We all know how life can flip in a second.
❌ “It feels self-indulgent.”
It’s not. It’s generous. You’re giving your family something no one else can: you, in your own words, forever.
This is my mission: I want to help people pass on their story. It really matters. I haven’t met one person who didn’t regret not having recorded the ones they loved.
